Young chef conquers the world of baking

BAKING was not her forte before, but in the long run, she learned to love and embrace the sweet world of baking.

"I can't really say that [baking] was a passion at first kasi [my] decision of studying pastry was [done in the] last minute. My mom noticed that I was indecisive about the course I should take, however, in the process of learning, I got interested and learned to love baking,” Chef Bianca Micaela Binag said.

The preciseness of the craft inspired Chef Bianca to continue what she started and she promised to herself to learn more techniques.

"[In this craft] dapat talaga [may] tamang timbang, tamang proseso…you can experiment with flavors and colors just like how life sometimes is," she added.

Aside from the things she learned from her mom, businesswoman and Chef Cathy Binag, Chef Bianca formally enrolled at the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management in 2013.

After finishing her culinary course, the 20-year old chef focused on her schooling and took up Bachelor of Science in Business Entrepreneurship at the Ateneo de Davao University.

While busy in school, Chef Bianca still finds time to share her baking skills, until she decided to pursue her long-time dream of putting up her own business which she coined as "Pastry Temptation."

"Coming up with the name was a process. I was thoroughly thinking for a good name that will sound good to the ears and will fit with the products I am offering,” Chef Bianca said, adding that she had long came up with the name and that it was her mommy who pushed her to start getting serious with her business.

The young chef added that it was her mom who inspired her to take the craft she had chosen seriously and she was also the one who helped her in conceptualizing new ideas for the business.

Chef Bianca proudly introduced her specialty cake that includes Strawberry Shortcake, Opera Cake and Chocolate Orange Cake.

Aside from it, she also makes and sells cookies, bars and cupcakes.

"We are also starting to accept orders for fondant or buttercream debut cakes," she quipped.

With the growing number of people who are getting interested into baking and selling pastry products, Chef Bianca has no worries on it, instead she's taking the competition positively.

"Competition is healthy. I look at it as my way to grow and expand my

Perspective," Chef Bianca shared.

For now, while its summer and she has no classes, Chef Bianca launched a fun and productive summer baking class for Kids in partnership with the JCI Kadayawan which is held at the White House Fusion Cuisine and Wine Lounge.

Kids as young as five years old to 11 years old can enroll and experience the most fun summer class in town.

When asked about what is the signature of her pastry products, the young chef said, "Maybe the flavor and the simplicity. When you taste my cakes, it’s not too sweet and you can really and easily taste the flavor. My cake designs the designs are simple because for me it’s the flavor that really matters," Chef Bianca said.

Part of her plan is to put up a pastry shop in the future. For now, she accepts orders thru Facebook, and posts her pastry creations on her Facebook and Instagram page.

She added that in order to succeed, it is important to instill patience in everything you do.
