2 village watchmen shot dead by Cafgu

TWO village watchmen were shot to death by a member of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) based in Barangay Canlusong, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental during a fiesta early Tuesday morning, May 30.

Senior Inspector Bonifacio Aral Jr., town police chief, identified the fatalities as Armando Labto Jr. and Rogelio Bendol.

Both village watchmen responded to a commotion between two Cafgu members. They pacified the involved parties but one of the Cafgu members identified as Renante Villarosa went to the detachment compound and returned with an M-14 rifle.

Villarosa reportedly drunk fired at the two victims who were sitting in front of a sari-sari store.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other Cafgu member based in Barangay San Isidro, who is the gunman’s brother, has no involvement in the crime, since he left the area after the commotion, Aral said.

He added that Villarosa sent surrender feelers to the police through their detachment commander.

Villarosa surfaced around 1:10 p.m. Tuesday through the assistance of the company commander from Murcia-based detachment.

He was then brought to E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station for custody.

Aral said Villarosa will be charged once the necessary documents are ready for filing.
