DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio wished for peace in Mindanao and the whole Philippines on her birthday on Wednesday, May 31.
"Thank you God for the gift of life and family. Thank you everyone for taking a moment out of your busy day to send greetings. I wish for peace in Davao City, in Mindanao and if it is not too much God, the entire Philippines. Have a nice day everyone," she posted on Facebook account.
Duterte-Carpio earned many birthday wishes. As of 3:34 p.m., Wednesday, her post garnered over 6,400 reactions and more than 1,000 comments.
Majority wished for the mayor's good health and more strength and wisdom as a leader.
Among the most striking and heartwarming comment came from Virle Mae Orillo Eltagunde, a Grade 9 student who posted a throwback picture with Mayor Sara years back.
"Happy Birthday Mayor! Here is a picture of us back when you had given me a wheelchair when I was just around six or seven years old. It has been a while. Now, I am already 17 years old and a Grade 9 student. I am really thankful because I had received a wheelchair from you, my idol. I hope I will have a chance to see you again and I wish you more and more birthdays to come. God bless mayor," she said in the vernacular.
Akila Rosales was also among the netizens who expressed gratitude to the mayor also called "Mayor Inday", for the inspiration she is giving not just to Dabawenyos but also to all women.
"Happiest birthday to our beloved Mayor Inday! I also thank you for the inspiration you are giving to all Dabawenyos especially to the women. Stay strong and fierce ma'am! We love you to bits and pieces! Enjoy your day ma'am," Rosales said.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, the mayor's brother, also sent best wishes to Sara.
