Davao's free veterinary services for cats, dogs cancelled

THE Davao City Veterinarian's Office postponed cancelled the free spay and neuter service for cats and dogs, which was supposedly scheduled to run on June 3 to 7 at the People's Park, due to the proclamation of Martial Law.

Davao City Veterinarian doctor Cerelyn Pinili in a letter sent to the City Information Office on Tuesday, May 30, that they are cancelling the activity due to martial law in Mindanao and the observance of the

guidelines for Dabawenyos during the period of the martial law.

The City Veterinarian Office will partner with the Philippine Pet Birth Control Center Foundation and the Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation and Fostering Davao Incorporated. Apparently the groups will not be available on the scheduled event.

"We assure you that we will continue to work for responsible pet ownership and address the population issues of our domestic by way of information, education, and communication including spaying and neutering," Pinili said.

In a separate interview, CVO focal person for Rabies and Control program and chief of Animal Disease Prevention and Control Section Gay Pallar said it is likely that the group were scared.

"Murag nahadlok man gud ang mga taga Manila, wala pa'y confirmation sa next schedule pero [sunod schedule kay] after siguro sa 60 days nga martial law (Those from Manila were quite afraid. There is no confirmation yet for the next schedule but maybe it will be after the 60-day martial law)," Pallar said.

She said they plan to cater 400 heads for that event. (Karina V. Cañedo/SunStar Davao)
