Sta. Ana students receive P500,000 scholarship grants

SANTA ANA -- The Municipal Government of Sta. Ana took advantage of the suspension of classes on Sunday to distribute half a million pesos in educational assistance to some 372 high school and college students.

Mayor Rommel Concepcion said the distribution is the second of five distributions this year in a bid help indigent students and their families.

Concepcion started the scholarship assistance at the start of his term to help students in their studies.

"The help is just a little amount but the objective is to help as many students and encourage them to strive to finish their studies. The local government has a responsibility towards the education of the young but it is a responsibility that is shared by the parents and the community. This is giving a part of what we can," Concepcion told Sun.Star Pampanga.

Some 223 college and 143 high school students received P2,000 and P1,000 each in cash assistance, respectively. The students come from various barangays of the town from the poorest residents as identified by the barangay officials and the municipal social welfare office.

Concepcion is already on his last term as mayor and promised to continue helping the scholars until the end of his term. Three more distribution dates are scheduled this year to help local students here.
