Rodriguez not running for governor

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga Third District Representative Oscar Rodriguez dispelled rumors on Monday that he will run for the province's highest post.

In an interview with veteran broadcaster Perry Pangan over the popular "Talakayan Ngayon" on dwRW 95.1 FM, Rodriguez--who spoke about the Mt. Pinatubo eruption where he, together with businessman Levy Laus pushed for rehabilitation and lifted the Kapampangan spirit and resiliency--said that he would not "battle it out" with the incumbent "mother of Pampanga" Governor Lilia Pineda.

"Eh bakit ko naman lalabanan si Mareng Baby eh ang ganda ng ginagawa niya para sa probinsiya," Rodriguez said.

He also reiterated his intention to seek re-election as congressman, refuting reports that he would make a comeback as mayor of the City of San Fernando.

Earlier, Rodriguez "anointed" Mayor Edwin Santiago as the "mayor again to be" of this city, "the one" who could continue his advocacies and reforms for the city.

"Sa Congress ulit tayo," he stressed.

Rodriguez is the current chairman of the House committee on good government and public accountability, the counterpart of the Senate's blue ribbon committee.

"Hindi nga ako dapat mabigyan ng committee chairmanship dahil first termer ako pero request iyun ng President kay Speaker Sonny Belmonte. Kaya lubos ang aking pasasalamat sa kanila sa tiwala," he said. (JTD)
