Prov’l engineer denies corruption complaint

NEGROS Occidental Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa dismissed on Wednesday, May 31, the complaint filed against him for alleged violation of Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

“It’s all lie and has no basis. I challenge him to prove his allegation,” Mapa said.

The complaint was submitted to Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas Paul Elmer Clemente based on the allegation of Engineer Leo Galvez.

Based on the letter of John Chiong, deputy national commander of Task Force Crusaders, to the Ombudsman, Mapa allegedly has unexplained wealth, considering his ownership of eight units of private cars and three units of house and lot in a high-end subdivision.

Chiong asked the Ombudsman to conduct an investigation.

For his part, Mapa said that while he has two houses at Goldcrest Subdivision in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, they acquired them through loans.

He added that he has been in government service for 32 years already, and his wife is a manager of a company covering Bacolod and Iloilo.

"Don’t we have the right to enjoy the fruits of our labor?" Mapa said.

He said the car used by his wife is a company car and there's no truth to the claim that he owns eight private cars.
