Urban oasis: Ibiza BGC

A FEW months ago, Manny Osmeña himself, who established the Ibiza Beach Club at Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu, told a group of us media partners about his plans to take Ibiza to the big city. The architect’s perspectives looked pretty impressive on the PowerPoint presentation. But “impressed” is a minute description of experiencing the new Ibiza in Manila. I had the chance to check it out after hours while on business in Manila last week, upon the invitation of Movenpick marketing communications manager Meg Hernandez. Joining the warm welcome were Ibiza BGC media coordinators Judy Lorenzo and Rowena Diocton.

In the big city, Ibiza Beach Club is an urban oasis at the W City Centre, in the upscale Bonifacio Global City (BGC). The dining areas, entertainment space, lounges and sunken seating with water features are spread out over 4,000 square meters. That’s big enough to accommodate 1,000 people! No wonder it’s been so frequently booked as a private event venue since its soft opening on Easter Sunday. The al fresco seating offers generous views of BGC’s glittering buildings. One area even has a Jacuzzi that, yes, guests can most definitely dip into.

No expense was spared in the making of Ibiza BGC, from the chic uniforms designed by no less than Cary Santiago, to the multi-million-peso sound system. Despite the investment of P300 million, food and beverage prices are kept the same as in Ibiza in Cebu. The 15-course Balearic menu is available in BGC, as are the signature cocktails.

As the W City Centre is surrounded by offices and upscale shopping centers, Ibiza offers daytime visitors a special lunch set that already includes soup, a generous salad buffet, a side dish and a choice of an entree for P500 net. You’d be seriously hard pressed to find lunch of this quantity and quality in the area!

If you are in or are planning to be in the capital soon, a visit to Ibiza BGC is well worth your while. Ibiza hasn’t had its grand opening yet, but guests are clearly already enjoying the ultra stylish space. Even though I visited on a weekday, the bars and main dining area were running full of pairs, small groups, and large tables of friends and families. After-work drinks can easily turn into dinner and beyond with the live band and 45-minute dinner show. I spent nearly five hours on my first visit to Ibiza just looking all around the place and loving the entertainment and dining. The prompt and attentive service made my rib eye steak, tiger prawns, filet mignon, et cetera, even more enjoyable!
