Guardo back in office after serving suspension

THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7 has ordered Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo to return to work, lifting the latter’s three-month suspension, which was supposed to lapse on June 20 yet.

This would mean that the councilor can join again the City Council’s regular session on Tuesday.

It will be the first time that he will participate in the discussion as an ally of the administration after bolting from Team Rama last March. “I’m very excited to perform my duty as councilor,” Guardo said.

In a letter dated My 29, DILG 7 Director Rene Burdeos directed Guardo to continue his duties and functions after paying a P70,000 fine last April to the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas.

The amount is equivalent to the three months salary of a Sambag I barangay captain.

Last December, the Ombudsman found Guardo guilty of simple neglect of duty for failing to submit some documents when he was still the Sambag I village chief.

Last March 23, the Ombdusman ordered the conversion of the suspension into a fine.

ith his return, Guardo said he will prioritize projects that will promote the city as a sports tourism destination.
