Palace: Naming of Resorts World attacker disproves Isis link

MALACAÑANG said Sunday the identification of the lone attacker at Resorts World Manila would finally put to rest the worries of many people that the incident was a terrorist attack.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, in an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, identified the slain gunman as Jessie Carlos, a resident of Sta. Cruz, Manila.

"At according to her (Carlos' wife) po ay siya ay, si Jesse Carlos po ay addicted to we just like to say that we like to put the worries of the general public to rest para hindi po sila mabahala kaya po minadaling mailabas ito para hindi na po naliligalig ang mga tao na that this could be some form of terrorist attack, hindi po," he said.

Abella reiterated the initial assessment of the police that the the Resorts World incident was "a criminal act perpetrated by an emotionally disturbed individual."

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) reportedly claimed responsibility over the tragic incident.

The attack at Resorts World early Friday left 38 people dead, including the gunman, who set the casino tables on fire, resulting to the suffocation of those who mostly perished.

London attack

Meanwhile, Malacañang also extended its sympathies to the victims of a terror attack in London where at least six people were killed.

"We’d like to say that our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and the families of the very sad events in London," Abella said.

"Acts such as these touched not only the people of London, they also touched all peace-loving people in the global community," he said.

The attackers drove van into the pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people in nearby Borough Market.

The police killed three suspected assailants. Scores were also wounded in the incidents and they were rushed to hospital. (SDR/SunStar Philippines)
