Mt. Province lawmaker passes away at 70

MOUNTAIN Province representative Maximo Dalog Sr. passed away Saturday morning, June 3, as announced by his daughter Zenith Rose.

The Mountain Province lawmaker succumbed to Sepsis Secondary to Pneumonia in a hospital in Quezon City.

His remains were brought to Tam-awan in Baguio on Sunday, June 4, for a short viewing and transferred to Bontoc via Kayapa for an overnight vigil at Caluttit.

A necrological service will be held at the MP building on Wednesday, June 6 and after which his remains will be brought to Bila, Bauko where he will lie in repose until his burial on June 12, 2017.

Dalog was born on October 1, 1946 in Bila, Bauko, Mountain Province, the second, among seven children. He is married to Cecilia Yawan of Bontoc, Mountain Province, whom he met while teaching at Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (formerly Mountain Province College) and were gifted with six children.

Dalog took his primary education at the Bila Sacred Heart School and finished elementary at Otucan Elementary School and took his secondary education at the Holy Rosary High School in Kayan, Tadian, also in Mountain Province.

He graduated salutatorian and received the Best in Religion award.

The 70-year-old lawmaker went to Baguio City to take up Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at the Roman Catholic-run school Saint Louis University (SLU).

He finished the degree in 1967 as a Study Now Pay Later Plan grantee.

After graduating from college, he was employed at the SLU Boy’s High School. He then moved to Baguio City High School in 1971. While teaching, he enrolled Bachelor of Laws at SLU and was able to win a scholarship which he enjoyed until he finished the degree.

Dalog’s political career started when he won a Board Member seat in Mountain Province in 1980 until 1987. In 1992, he ran for Governor and won and was re-elected in 1995.

During his administration, Mountain Province received awards as the Cleanest and Greenest Province and the Best Peace and Order Council.

The slogan “Gawis ay Mountain Province” also became popular among his constituents.

In 2004, Dalog made a dramatic comeback when he regained his old seat as the chief executive of the province and since served the people of the Montañosa as the province representative in the Lower House until his death.
