CFA to hold referees’ course

LOCAL referees will get a chance to improve their knowledge and skills in officiating football matches with the holding of a Category 4 referees’ course by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and the Cebu Football Association (CFA) on June 25 to 28 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

A total of 30 local referees will undergo the training course, which will be mentored by two referees from the PFF.

They will basically be learning the ground rules and the Laws of the Game and also learn the usual mistakes of referees.

The course will be divided into two - field training and theory, which will be done in the the first two days of the course.

“The referees who show consistency in their decision will be our priority,” said CFA Referees Committee head Engr. Rodney Orale.

Orale’s goal by the end of this year is to hold Category 2 training course and send the top local officials of that course to join the Category 1 course in Manila.

“Our goal is to motivate them and give them a chance to officiate professional football matches, to officiate not only in Cebu but in the whole Philippines,” said Orale.

The culmination of the course will be on the same day of the championship match of the Men’s Open division of the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup between Leylam FC and Erco BRO Gau.
