NBI to carry out DNA test on body of casino gunman

JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to extract DNA from the body of Jessie Carlos, the lone gunman in the Resorts World Manila incident last Friday, June 2.

Aguirre said the DNA test will dismiss doubts on the real identity of the attacker whom the police earlier suspected to be a foreign national.

Carlos, who had been identified as the suspect in the deadly attack at the casino, shot television screens and set gambling tables ablaze by pouring gasoline on them before he set himself on fire in a hotel room.

The casino fire left 37 people dead due to suffocation from smoke.

The identity of Carlos, a dismissed government employee, has been confirmed by his parents, who apologized to the public last Sunday.

Aguirre earlier ordered the NBI to conduct a parallel investigation and determine any criminal, civil or administrative liability on the owners of Resorts World Manila and the government agencies behind the casino. (SunStar Philippines)
