Retired soldier 'smuggling' guns arrested in Danao City

POLICE caught a retired soldier for allegedly trying to smuggle unlicensed firearms at a checkpoint in Barangay Taytay, Danao City at 5:35 p.m., Tuesday, June 6.

Chief Inspect Gerard Ace Pelare, the city police chief, identified the suspected gun runner as Rodrigo Itucas Beonia Jr.

Seized from the 45-year-old suspect, a Barangay Nangka, Balamban resident, were six pistols, assorted lower and upper receivers, assorted magazines, barrels, and bullets.

Pelare said the suspect was driving a KIA sportage.

Beonia rolled down the window of his car, after he was stopped by the police.

One of the officers saw a .45 pistol placed on the passenger seat beside the suspect.

Beonia failed to present permits for his gun, after officer asked him.

A search in his followed. Police found a .357 revolver, two .45 pistols, a .38 revolver, a 5.56 revolver, three assorted upper receivers, three assorted lower receivers, three magazines, five assorted barrels, and bullets.

He will face charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
