Contractors’ gathering set

THE Construction Industry Tripartite Council (CITC) will conduct a Contractor Summit at The Ritz Hotel Garden Oases on July 28 and 29.

Concerns of contractors and the labor law will be discussed.

CITC is a joint council of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), contractors, and the professionals including engineers and doctors, among others.

“During the summit, there will be a seminar for the labor laws particularly on construction and also the environmental aspects of construction,” said Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (Pice) Board of Director engineer Eddie Fuentes, who also serves as the CITC vice chairman, with Dole-Davao regional director Raymundo Agravante as the chairman.

He also said some 300 individuals and contractor companies from the region are expected to participate during the summit.

“The objective of this summit is for the contractors to be more aware of our existing labor laws in construction. I also encouraged the contractors to voice out whatever concern they have during this summit regarding the laws and guidelines that they would want to be included in the future laws or contractor guidelines which Dole might be able to bring up to the authorities or lawmakers,” Fuentes said.

He added the surfacing labor law violations committed in selected parts of the region is child labor.

Other labor-related concerns that might be raised by participants during the summit are the regulation of minimum wages and the workers’ safety and health especially in the workplace.

“This is especially because Dole inspects construction including the safety of the people,” he said.

Fuentes added any individual engineer and/or contractor company interested to participate in the summit may visit the Dole 11 office for registration.

This year’s Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) Week in Davao City, which is set on June 17, will be spearheaded by Pice Davao City Chapter.

The celebration will start with a motorcade to be participated in by different members of the 30 accredited professional association organizations in Davao City.

A mini sportsfest will also be held at the PRC compound.

The celebration, Fuentes said, aims to bring together the different professional members of PRC Davao City.
