Davao's task force on toxic substances convenes

THE inter-agency task force created to regulate and ensure safe practices of persons and entities involved in selling hazardous and flammable chemicals and toxic substances held their first organizational meeting to finalize the task of each agency involved.

Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Benito De Leon, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said the task force was created, through an executive order, by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio last May 10.

"This is a reaction to curb ang paglipana ng illegal refilling station na naging cause ng accidents in the area, so part of that is identifying steps kung ano dapat ang actions that will be required from the task force or the team para ma-regulate and mabantayan ang mga illegal na LPG refilling stations or mga tanke," he said.

The meeting was attended by different city offices including the City Health Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and Central 911, among others.

De Leon said the first organizational meeting was held to assign tasks among committee members.

"First organizational meeting [was held] para ipaabot [sa] members ng committee kung ano yung dapat naming gawin at kung ano ang task na aming gagawin to monitor ang paghandle ng compliance ng mga establishments about LPG nang sa ganoon maiwasan ang aksidente dito sa Davao," he added. (KVC)
