Village chief underscores kids’ shelter establishment

ANGELES CITY -- A village chief stressed the need to establish shelters for “neglected and abandoned children” who roam around the streets at the city’s entertainment district begging for alms from motorists and tourists.

Rodelio Mamac, Balibago village chief, relayed his call for the construction of a children’s home when officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Central Luzon Regional Legal Department, led by Superintendent Judy Lopez, visited the village recently.

Mamac told Lopez, who was accompanied by Angeles Police Station 4 commander Chief Inspector Rainer Mercado, that street children had learned to use illegal drugs and steal money.

“Some of these streets children are now snatchers and rugby users. Again, we need facilities for temporary shelter of abandoned, neglected and tolerated street children who are at risks,” Mamac said.

The village chief also discussed with the police officers the problem about illegal drugs.

He said the PNP should sustain the war against illegal drugs launched by President Duterte. “We love our children, we should continue our fight against drugs.”
