Negros Occidental to donate P1M for Marawi

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will donate a P1-million financial assistance to Marawi City whose residents have been displaced by the ongoing clash between government forces and the Maute group, Negros Occidental governor said.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said his request for the cash donation will be submitted to the Provincial Board for approval next week.

“We will course through our donation to a concerned government agency, either the Department of the Interior and Local Government or the Department of Social Welfare and Development. We want to make sure that it immediately reaches Marawi,” the Marañon said.

Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante, chairman of committee on appropriations, budget, finance, ways and means, said the P1-million donation will be sourced from the subsidy fund for local government units released through assistance and grants.

Moreover, Marañon said the province has already received donations for Marawi from mayors and some private citizens.

Food items like sardines and other canned goods have been donated, he added.

“We would like to reiterate our appeal to our fellow Negrenses to extend help to our needy fellowmen in Marawi,” the governor added.
