Awards for firms with innovative labor relations

THE Mandaue City Government and the City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) will recognize companies with outstanding and innovative labor relations practices.

The TIPC, led by Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna, launched the search for the 2017 Gawad Linaw awards together with officials of the Department of Labor and Employment 7 and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board 7.

Over 14,000 businesses operate in Mandaue, based on data from the City Treasurer’s Office.

Atty. Fortuna said that some of these business establishments have been adopting “innovative labor relations strategies that help them survive” despite uncertainty in the global economy.

“Because of this, the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council has conceived a program, which seeks to recognize and acknowledge these efforts to encourage the social partners to continue their drive at enhancing labor and management relations,” said the vice mayor.

For the 2017 Gawad Linaw award, any business located and registered in the city with a minimum workforce of 20 and at least five years of operations can join. The company can be unionized or non-unionized.

Judges will look into the employee-management relationship (30 percent), state of labor-management relations and dispute resolution strategies (30 percent), productivity program (30 percent), and corporate social responsibility and accountability (10 percent) of potential awardees.

TIPC’s acceptance of nominations is ongoing and will end on June 30.

The screening of nominees will be next month and the awarding will be in August.

Entries can be submitted to the Office of the Vice Mayor. For inquiries, call (032) 268-9988, (032) 268-3113 or 09258558804 and look for Edna Abendan.

Winners will get P50,000 cash and a trophy.
