THE Iloilo City has unanimously selected city Councilor Lady Grace Julie Baronda as acting chairman of the city council committee on youth and sports development until such time the president of the city youth council is elected on October 2016.
The simultaneous youth council and barangay elections are slated on October 2016.
Baronda is the youngest elected city councilor and she is expected to resuscitate the activities of the barangay youths in all 180 barangays in the city.
The youth council were abolished last year following Congress decision to temporarily stop the youth council operation pending the inclusion of the council reforms.
The youth development operation was taken over by the barangay council but the City Council deemed it right to have someone or a city councilor supervising the youth activities in the city.
Baronda was elected city councilor in a citywide 2013 elections at the age of 23 and considered as the youngest city councilor in the Visayas.
Baronda is the daughter of city health officer Urminico Baronda and La Paz Maternity Hospital director Julie Baronda and younger sister of former city councilor Julienne Baronda.
