Summer fun at SM Lanang Premier

WHEN it is summer time, parents, especially moms like me, always look for ways on how to make the season fun for the children.

At SM Lanang Premier, summer, which is also the school break for many students, was definitely exciting as the shopping destination lined up a number of activities for young children.

With activities ranging from culinary to visual arts workshops, children were given the opportunity to enjoy and learn at the same time. They are memorable, too!

The SM Lanang Premier's summer bento workshop gathered dozens of culinary curious kids who discovered the art of creating colorful meals that are delicious to look at and eat.

Kat Maderazo and Trish Bustamante of Bento by Kat, a creative group that provides lessons for parents on creating healthy meals for picky kids, led the said workshop.

In the meantime, the Art Weekend helped children bring out their creativity through painting and clay crafting.

In partnership with Dr. Helen Chu, who leads the Davao chapter of Global Art, children aged seven to 15 gamely learned new art skills from five of Global Art artists or instructors, who shared with them some of the visual art fundamentals.

And not only that! Throughout the weekends of May, music-loving youngsters and their parents joined a ukulele workshop held in partnership with Sound Essentials. This resulted in an exciting music discovery experience from featured string instruments.

On the other hand, the atrium of the mall was also transformed into a martial arts ring when more than 80 young athletes convened for a sports event by the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo Philippines (AAK).

The AAK Tournament 2017-Super Karate Kids celebrated sportsmanship with participants from Manila, Bacolod and Davao.

The young athletes engaged in friendly competition on Kata and Kumite (freestyle fighting).

"SM Lanang Premier is an exciting destination for kids all year round," SM Lanang Premier mall manager Therese Lapena Manalo said in a statement.

"We partner with passionate organizations to create meaningful and fun activities that transform the mall into a space for kids' creative expression and learning," she added.

Apart from these exciting treats during summer, May likewise marked the birth of the first-ever branch of Uniqlo in Mindanao. Opened on May 26 at the ground floor of the mall, the Japanese brand started offering quality and fashionable pieces for the Dabawenyo fashionistas.
