Mandaue City calls for vigilance, trains citizens vs bomb threats

MANDAUE City Mayor Luigi R. Quisumbing together with the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) gathered representatives of the business sector, churches, schools, hospitals, motels in Mandaue City for a business Establishment Security Training last Saturday at the Mandaue City Hall.

The briefing focused on vigilant steps citizens can take to secure certain places, especially crowded ones.

The MCPO led the activity. It also produced leaflets containing protocols and safety measures when encountering local or international terrorist groups.

The event highlighted the attack by the Maute group in Marawi and how to act during a bomb threat.

Citizens should immediately call the Command Center or the Fire Department if incidents like these happen.

Police officials in Mandaue City will also bring similar training to the schools. Students will be taught how to detect bombs and some protocols to follow in cases of threats.

Quisumbing, on the other hand, said Mandaue City has well-trained personnel when it comes to explosives ordnance and bomb threat preparations since September last year.

SPO2 Isagani Cabanlit, MCPO’s Explosives Ordinance Disposal chief, reminded citizens to contact the MCPO, SWAT or the MCPO Hotline when there is a threat, and the Command Center, as well, for medical assistance.

Quisumbing also emphasized the role of security agencies and urged them to pay special attention in keeping institutions safe, especially schools.

“Let’s treat the threat the proper way it deserves,” the mayor said. (Mindanao State University-Marawi intern Aisha Murad)
