DSWD bares cash assistance to displaced families

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Northern Mindanao has announced that they will provide cash assistance to the 1,916 internally displaced families even as it said it has yet to receive the funds for the slated cash assistance.

In a statement, the DSWD-Northern Mindanao clarifies that the food assistance, in the form of cash, will be provided after it will be downloaded to them and specific guidelines for its release will be made accordingly.

Nestor Ramos, DSWD-Northern Mindanao regional director, said its office has already submitted proposal to the Central office and they are waiting for the guidelines to facilitate a smoother distribution of the cash assistance to the displaced families.

The DSWD has also emphasized that they’ll be prioritizing families in evacuation centers than those who are seeking refuge from their relatives.

"Apan wala kini nagpasabot nga pasagdahan lang ang mga nanginahanglan usab nga mga home-based internally displaced persons (However this does not mean that we are taking for granted the home-based internally displaced persons). Wala usab kini nagpasabot nga adunay pagpihig ang paghatag og hinabang (This does not also mean that there is favoritism in the distribution of assistance). Gusto lang iklaro sa DSWD Field Office 10 nga ang tanan nga tinuod nga IDPs mahatagan og hinabang. Apan unahon gyud kadtong mga pamilya nga mas nanginahanglan (We are clarifying that all affected will be given assistance but the ones who really need it will be prioritized)," it says.

Ramos said the DSWD will also outline strategies to resolve issues on the supposed duplication of IDP names to avoid "over-distribution" of food packs per family.

"We want to make sure that all affected families are able to receive DSWD family food packs and non-food items, that is why we need to be fair and thorough in ensuring that all our resources are equally distributed to all the affected families,” Ramos said.

To date, the DSWD has released relief goods with a total cost of P21,050,202 to the internally displaced persons staying in 33 evacuation centers in Northern Mindanao and about 1,916 internally displaced families in evacuation centers and 19,836 families that are staying with their respective relatives.
