Search for slain Bohol mayor's body may reach Camotes

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas chief on Thursday, June 15, said the search for the body of Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel might go as far as Camotes Island in Cebu.

"Depende kasi malayo kapag pupunta ng Camotes. I-aalert lang natin ang pulis natin doon. Kapag may lumutang, kahit papano naka-alert na sila (It depends because Camotes is too far. We will alert the local police in Camotes if they see something floating in the water)," PRO-Central Visayas Chief Noli Taliño said.

Taliño said though they are sticking to the 15-day period, they consider the sea current that may have brought Gisela's body farther from Caubian Island in Lapu-Lapu City.

"We are looking for a period of 15 days. We have gone out of the vicinity where the body was thrown. The radius got bigger. We are also considering the current where the body might have been brought," Taliño said in Filipino.

He added that seven additional divers from Bien Unido joined the search and rescue operation on Wednesday.

The PRO-Central Visayas chief also said the family of Gisela Boniel is satisfied with the investigation.

The family, Taliño said, also denied the rumors that they are asking for solicitations for the recovery of Gisela's body.

"That is not true. Once and for all, they said they are not asking for solicitations for the recovery of the body," Taliño said.

Taliño said the police took swabs of saliva from Gisela's sibling on Wednesday for the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) testing.

Gisela Boniel was shot by her husband, Board Member Niño Rey Boniel, on June 7 while aboard a pump boat. Her body was thrown off Caubian Island, Lapu-Lapu City. (with Franz Correa/SunStar Philippines)
