Man with fake money arrested

POLICE arrested a man in possession of counterfeit money on Jacinto St., Barangay 32-D in Davao City Saturday.

The suspect was identified as Erano Lasaga Milano, of Bankerohan.

A complainant identified as Chardy Dapulang Bonotan, of Times Beach in Davao City, told police probers he had an altercation with the suspect who had wanted to exchange his three P100 bills and a P200 bill for a P500 bill.

Bonotan said he refused to do so after he noticed the four bills have the same serial numbers.

Personnel from Sta. Ana police led by station commander Superintendent Royina Garma were patrolling the area when they noticed the two in a heated argument.

A total of P47,200 worth of fake bills were recovered from the suspect's possession.

Inspector Ireneo Brillantes Jr., Sta. Ana police chief investigator, warned the public about the circulation of fake money in Davao City.

"Isa nasa atong gusto ipa-intensify ang pagdakop sa mga nagapakalat ug counterfeit money (We want to intensify our campaign against fake bills here in the city)," Brillantes said.

"Basig naa pa nakalusot na fake bills so dapat magbantay ang publiko (There is also a possibility that fake bills have already been circulated so this is a warning to the public)," he added.

The suspect is presently detained at the Sta. Ana police station while the seized fake money was submitted for further examination.

Milano faces charges for violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) on counterfeit money and Article 151 of RPC for Resistance and Disobedience to a person in authority.
