THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Davao Region nabbed four Utility Vehicle (UV) Express vans heading northbound in Lasang, Davao City on Thursday morning, June 15.
The arrest came after the LTFRB national office ordered a resolution to cease and desist from operating all UV Express Services with routes going to and from Davao City.
The resolution was released on Thursday by the LTFRB national office after a vehicle collision between a UV Express van and a dump truck happened in Crossing Mahayag, Tibungco, Davao City on Wednesday, June 14. The death toll already rose to 11 after the helper of the truck succumbed to serious body injuries in the evening while seven others were wounded and are currently seeking treatment in Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
LTFRB transportation development officer Virgilio Jebone Jr., in an interview, said the implementation done by LTFRB in Lasang Thursday morning was in cooperation with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Both agencies monitored any UV Express van that still operates going northbound.
"We call their attention and oblige them to stop on the side of the road. The vans apprehended today and the coming days will be impounded by LTO," Jebone said.
He also said they will conduct the inspection everyday with the assistance from Task Force Davao.
A total of 693 operating UV Express vans, Jebone said, are affected by the resolution. LTFRB still has no date set as to when the vans can resume operation.
The resolution noted that various reports have reached the attention of the LTFRB national office that UV Express vans plying the northern route of Davao City are engaged in reckless driving and over speeding, endangering the lives of the commuting public.
Jebone said as of October 2016 up to the present, LTFRB-Davao has only recorded four UV Express vans accidents saying that there are higher cases in some other regions.
"We still do not know yet why our national office has decided to impose this regulation in our region. Yet, what we can only do now is to obey their given resolution," Jebone said.
