BI nabs Chinese fugitive at Cebu airport

OPERATIVES of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City a Chinese woman wanted in China for fraud.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI port operations division chief Marc Red Mariñas identified the fugitive as 44-year-old Fan Wenxin.

The BI said Fan was arrested on June 10 upon her arrival aboard a Malaysian Airlines flight from Singapore after the Interpol database showed that she is a subject of an arrest warrant issued by the municipal public security bureau in the Daqing, Heilongjiang, China.

She had presented a Vietnamese passport under the name Troung An Lan to conceal her identity.

According to Mariñas, the Chinese consulate in Cebu immediately issued Fan a travel document after her arrest so she can be sent back to China to stand trial for her crime.

A representative from China's Interpol bureau and two Chinese policemen escorted the foreign national on her flight to Fuzhou, China last June 13. (SunStar Philippines)
