Driver of Bohol board member surrenders

THE driver of Bohol Board Member Niño Rey Boniel in Cebu surrendered to authorities early Monday afternoon, June 19.

Edgar Tapere is being questioned in the Regional Special Operations Group.

He was the one who fetched Boniel from Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City and drove the board member to his residence in a subdivision in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

On June 16, the operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) raided the house of Niño Rey in Monterrazas De Cebu subdivision, Barangay Guadalupe.

Senior Inspector Windel Abellana, RSOG team leader, said the purpose of their operation was to locate the unlicensed Glock 17 .9mm pistol owned by Boniel, the suspected killer of his wife Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel.

The team, however, failed to find the firearm, whose license expired in December 2015.

Earlier, two alleged cohorts of Boniel appeared before the media to deny allegations on the involvement of Gisela Boniel murder.

Niño Rey Boniel allegedly shot Gisela on June 7 while aboard a pumpboat. The mayor's body was thrown off Caubian Island, Lapu-Lapu City. (With Franz Correa/SunStar Philippines)
