‘BOPK must grab council control to push agenda’

WITH the tables at the Cebu City Council expected to turn in favor of the administration soon, Mayor Tomas Osmeña said their priority would be to pass the proposed ordinance authorizing the sale of a three-hectare (ha.) parcel of land at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Osmeña pointed out that it is important for the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) councilors to get hold of the majority bloc for the administration to get its agenda moving.

Among these is the draft legislation authored by Councilor Nendell Hanz Abella supplementing City Ordinance 2332, which protects the SRP and its stakeholders from unlawful and unauthorized transactions and dealings.

In a previous report, Abella said the City Government can generate around P3.3 billion by selling the lots at P110,000 per square meter (sq. m.).

“I’m just reminding (Presidential Assistant for the Visayas) Michael Dino when he said that if anyone will buy it for P110,000 per sq.m., he will resign. I’m going to prove to you that he’s a liar because I will sell it. Finding buyers would not be a problem for me because I know my business. I can do SRP, they can’t,” he added.

Sought for comment on the eventual reorganization at the council, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is the presiding officer, maintained that the opposition will continue to provide check and balance at the council.

He also denied speculations that he will be bolting Barog Team Rama to join BOPK.

“A hundred percent, of course not,” Labella said.
