AFP verifying alleged Maute-operated shabu lab in Marawi

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is verifying the alleged clandestine laboratory being operated by the Isis-inspired Maute terror group in Marawi City.

Joint Task Force Lanao commander Brigadier General Ramiro Rey said the information that the Maute terror group was operating a shabu laboratory there came from the local residents.

“Wala pa kaming information na mayroong laboratory but ang nagsabi ng mga tao from Marawi na mayroong (shabu) laboratory sa conflict area,” he said.

Rey said the alleged presence of the shabu laboratory in Marawi City is already part of their investigation, aside from the possibility that several politicians who were involved in illegal drugs are supporting.

On Sunday, the army troops recovered 11 kilos of high-grade methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu amounting to at least P100 million in the Maute group's lair in Marawi City. (SunStar Philippines)
