San Fernando, partners host LGBT photo exhibit

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO--The City Government of San Fernando, along with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization Siwala and other partners are currently hosting a photo and poster exhibit at the SM City Downtown Event Center and the Heroes Hall here from June 15 to 29.

The event is part of the first LGBT June Pride Month celebration. Themed “Pagpapahalaga sa Kasarian, Tungo sa Pagkakaisa ng Sambayanan,” the celebration aims to uplift the spirit and empower members of the LGBT community and assume their roles as normal citizens of society.

The exhibit features works of students in creative posters highlighting the theme and message of gender equality and awareness. Photos were also exhibited on the importance of the LGBT community.

The activity aims to promote the message of the June Pride Month to the younger generation of the city as well as to different sectors. The event aims to promote a deeper and more emphatic understanding of the LGBT community and their concerns and issues. The event also hopes to highlight this month as a regular LGBT awareness month.

The LGBT Pride Month is celebrated every June, not only in this city but across different countries, especially in the US.

The celebration, which is symbolized by a rainbow flag, is a positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equal rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build communities, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.
