ALL is set for the celebration of the “Dia de Fundacion Chavacano” on Friday, June 23, in Zamboanga City.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will spearhead the observance of the Dia de Fundacion Chavacano, an annual celebration that marks the birth of the Chavacano language.

Salazar said this year’s celebration will kick off with a program at the Centro Latino Convention Hall at 8 a.m. Friday, June 23.

It will be followed by the second Chavacano Speech Choir and the first Chavacano Inter-School Quiz Bowl, which will be participated by elementary and high school students.

The two competitions aim to celebrate the history and showcase the legacy of the Chavacano language.

Held every 23rd of June through Ordinance 374, the Dia de Fundacion Chavacano celebrates the founding of the Chavacano language, and recognizes its role as one of the pillars of the Zamboangueño culture.
