80 rescuers assigned for San Juan feast in Bacolod

EIGHTY rescuers will be deployed by the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) to beaches and shorelines in the city for the feast of St. John the Baptist on Saturday, June 24.

Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, cluster head for CDRRMO, said on Thursday that private rescue groups like Amity, Chamber, and Red Cross also signified to help monitor the beach areas.

“Residents are expected to celebrate the feast of St. John the Baptist in various resorts and rivers. We are all on full alert,” Vargas said.

He said the rescuers will be deployed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the shorelines of Barangay Banago and Barangay Punta Taytay.

Vargas added that these rescue groups will concentrate on the swimming areas with no lifeguards.

The CDRRMO will also coordinate with barangay officials to monitor the rivers within their areas of jurisdiction.

Vargas said they will require village chiefs to assign watchmen in rivers for excursionists celebrating the feast of St. John the Baptist.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia had earlier ordered the CDRRMO to enforce City Ordinance 749 requiring resort owners and similar businesses to hire certified lifeguards.
