Police asked to examine list of remittance transactions

THE Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) sought the help of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) in examining a list of money remittance transactions that they recovered during a search inside the jail last Thursday.

The list was recovered from jailed police officer Antonio Aguisanda.

Roberto Legaspi, acting CPDRC warden, said they want to know if the contents of the list were transactions related to illegal drugs being sold inside the CPDRC.

Legaspi can’t say if CPDRC is already cleared from illegal drugs as he only served as the acting jail warden for at least three months.

He also said that he can’t replace all the jail personnel to prevent more contraband from entering CPDRC.

“That’s a big question now. How do we replace them? They’re government workers. They have regular plantilla positions and we cannot just automatically fire them for no reason and no evidence,” Legaspi said.

He plans to raise the matter to Gov. Hilario Davide III once the latter returns from his vacation in Jordan and Israel.

They are also looking into the possibility of turning over management of the CPDRC to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
