Elderly man dies in road accident

AN ELDERLY man died after he was hit by a tanker truck along Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City Friday morning, June 23.

Senior Inspector Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 4, identified the fatality as Pedro Niego, 63, of Patria Village Homes, Barangay Villamonte.

Investigation showed that Niego was crossing the street around 9:20 a.m., coming from a supermarket when the plastic bag he was holding got hooked in a tanker truck.

Niego was dragged by the vehicle and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, Bonilla said.

He added that the man died of heart attack, based on his medical record.

The truck was driven by Virgilio Maquitar Jr., 42, of Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, Negros Occidental.

Maquitar is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

He is detained at the station.
