More than a celebration of heritage

DAVAO del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario has pointed out the province's Golden Anniversary is more than just a celebration of heritage and bounty, but it depicts the "brand of unity" that led the province to greater heights during 50 years of its existence and building strong foundation for progress.

"Our brand of unity in diversity breaks down cultural and ideological barriers in advancing peace and development. This allows us to mark our new beginnings toning up tolerance, solidarity and our triumph over indifference," he told hundreds of local government officials, sectoral leaders and guests at the opening ceremony at the Activity Area of the sprawling and state-of-the-art Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.

"It is about honoring our special history and identity that bind us as one province... more about appreciating and taking pride in our rich diverse culture in taking on the challenges of the future," he added.

The young and dynamic governor has expressed optimism that the Dabaonons' endearing qualities of tolerance and solidarity is the best weapon of the province in "charting even new territories and getting over uncertainties in this increasingly globalizing world."

He turned nostalgic as he compared the interplay of vivid colors that adorned the on-going Kadagayaan Festival to the harmony of all sectors of the Dabaonon society. This as he praised the capacity of his people to shed their individual differences in attaining harmony, peace and development."

"I am truly overwhelmed to lead our people in commemorating this great milestone. Yet, I am even more inspired and excited to experience the sights, sound and vibrant colors being displayed today." he said.

"An assortment of different shades and hues is splattered all over our display booths, exhibits, venues, signage and even the garments that we wear. Yet, we do not see the individual qualities and identities of these colors. We do not focus on their differences because what we only see is the interplay of these colors that result in a dazzling beautiful kaleidoscope adorning the Kadagayaan Festival 2017," he added.

He said these colors reflect the individuality and the diversity of the Dabaonon society.

"We refuse to dwell on the distinction of a particular color representing each sector, organizational affiliation or individual person. Because what we behold is the blending of the individual tones that exemplify each sector to turn our shared differences into strength and resolve to get ahead. This enable us to see through the same lens and strengthen our unity of purpose in pursuing collective goals and objectives," he said.
