Cebu mosque sends relief goods to Marawi

OFFICIALS of a mosque in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City will send relief packs to those who were affected by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City.

The Al-Khairiah Masjid organized a relief drive and is still accepting donations, even from those outside Cebu’s Muslim community.

Imam Mohamad Helmie Abemor told SunStar Cebu that they started their relief efforts during the start of Ramadan.

The Office of the Muslim Affairs, he said, tapped them in asking for help from the Muslim community.

Al-Khairiah Masjid administrator PO3 Awing Tabayag said that when they started the relief operations, they were able to prepare and send 300 packs of relief goods to Marawi.

Their friend from Marawi picked up the relief goods in Barangay Mambaling then distributed it to the displaced families.

For the second batch, the officials of the mosque will send more than 300 relief goods.

As word spread about their relief efforts, it did not only attract members of the Muslim community but also Christian families and individuals who wanted to help.

Tabayag urged the public, whether Muslim or Christian, to help them in providing aid to those who were affected in the ongoing crisis.
