THE southbound lane of the Mananga 3 Bridge at the Cebu South Coastal Road in Talisay City will be open to traffic today.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was able to finish its maintenance and repairs at midnight yesterday.
Engr. Leslie Anthony Molina, DPWH 2nd district District engineer, told SunStar Cebu that they couldn't open the lane sooner because they needed to wait for the cement that they poured on the bridge's new expansion joints to cure. They also needed to put asphalt on the concrete to level the road.
Molina said traffic on the coastal road wasn't heavy even though the southbound side of the bridge was closed for three days since the northbound lane was open to two-way traffic.
He also said that there were fewer vehicles on the road because of the long weekend.
Molina said they will repair the northbound lane in August in preparation for the 2017 Cobra Ironman Triathlon, but they won't be closing the bridge.
