THE Muslim Youth Council (MYC) of Cagayan de Oro is reaching out their helping hand to the internally displaced people (IDPs) of Marawi through a series of relief operations in IDP concentration areas here in the city for the coming Saturdays of July.
Aliyah Lyka Yamot, the head of the MYC committee for this project said that their group plans to go directly to the IDPs in their temporary living spaces here in the city to hand out relief goods composed of food, water, blankets, and other necessities for the IDPs.
"We have just started planning how we will reach these IDPs but we would really like to go where they are in the city. So far our donors have been able to give us enough to help these people here," Yamot said.
The Muslim Youth Council is a union of about 13 Muslim groups here in Cagayan de Oro City which are mostly Muslim youth in the academe. In the commencement of the celebration of the Eid'l Fitr last Sunday, June 25, the group announced their intention to help the Marawi IDPs here in the city.
Yamot said that most of the relief goods that were donated to the group came from the offerings to the city's various Masjids. Others come from anonymous donors who come from different parts of the country.
"It is part of our religion, especially in these times that we have to give out help to our brothers and sisters. And whenever we help others, we do not really have to shout it out so that everybody would know. it is only Allah who can judge and grant us for our actions," she explained.
Yamot said that the group is open and in great need of more donations from interested donors. However, as their council does not have an official office, people can drop their donations to the Masjids in the city.
The groups will accept donations for as long as the situation in Marawi city hinders the IDPs to go home.
