AFP unaware of Maute's offer to free Suganob

THE military on Tuesday said they are yet to get information on the supposed offer made by the Maute group to release Catholic priest Chito Suganob in exchange for the freedom of their arrested relatives.

"Hindi pa po natin batid kung ano 'yung naging ugat niyan at kung saan nagsimula dahil hindi pa natin nakukuha ‘yung pormal na pinanggalingaan," said AFP spokesperson Restituto Padilla.

The information reportedly came from an emissary who had a meeting with Abdullah Maute during the eight-hour ceasefire imposed by the military on Sunday for the celebration of the Eid al-Fitr.

Abdullah Maute, one of the top leaders of the Isis-inspired terror group, reportedly said he is willing to release Suganob if the government will free their parents, Ominta "Farhana" and Cayamora, who were arrested in separate occasions along with other relatives.

Cayamora was arrested on June 7 at a checkpoint in Davao City, while Farhana was arrested on June 9 in Masiu, Lanao del Sur. The couple is tagged as founders of the local terror group. (SunStar Philippines)
