BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella said he will write President Benigno S. Aquino, III and Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II to reiterate his request to help Bacolod in its anti-flood efforts and projects.

"We don't need a band aid solution anymore to our flooding problem. It's been there before I was born. That means that there is a need for a national anti-flooding project that will be done by the national government. When I was a congressman, except for the coastal and sugar roads, I also asked the national government to help Bacolod in its anti-flooding and drainage projects,” the mayor said.

Puentevella said the anti-flooding project has long been delayed, and the city has already spent millions to address it but it is not enough.

“We need a city-wide anti flooding project for us to address the problem properly,” he said.

He added that there are several rivers in Bacolod that have been blocked by some buildings.

"We cannot address this using our own very limited budget because the problem on flooding is so serious. It's been there for almost 50 to 60 years now. We are just lucky that our flooding is not that. It is time that this has to be done by the national government," the mayor said.(CNC)
