‘Attach Cordova to Lapu, Consolacion to Mandaue’

THE two provincial legislators in Cebu’s 6th district yesterday said that a better redistricting option would be to attach the Municipality of Cordova to the lone district of Lapu-Lapu City and the town of Consolacion to Mandaue City.

Board Members Glenn Bercede and Thadeo Jovito Ouano are in favor of House Bill 4117 filed by Rep. Jonas Cortes (Cebu, 6th district) seeking a lone district of Mandaue City but with modification.

Their modification is for Cordova to be attached to Lapu-Lapu City and for Consolacion to be part of Mandaue City. They said this redistricting is ideal because Cordova is contiguous to Lapu-Lapu City and Consolacion is contiguous to Mandaue City.

Cortes’ bill is being tackled in the House committee level and there may be changes because some congressmen, especially from Cebu, may give their inputs.

Once the committee will pass it, it will be forwarded to the House plenary.

The two noticed that when Lapu-Lapu City, which was part of the 6th district, was declared as a lone district, Cordova remained with the 6th district although it is part of Mactan Island.

Bercede said he, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado, Cordova Mayor Tetchie Sitoy-Cho and Presidential Legal Assistant Adelino Sitoy already attended a committee hearing on the matter during the first reading.

“The bill is long overdue. I co-sponsored with Bercede the resolution supporting it. The question now is about the fate of Cordova and Consolacion,” Ouano said.
