A SENIOR citizen hacked her sister to death and left a minor who witnessed the incident traumatized in Barangay Alinaya, Pidigan, Abra, on Monday, June 26.
According to police reports, 60-year-old Rosita Cabanilla Bandiez, was attacked by her sister, 70-year-old Gertrudiz Cabanilla Elpa, inside their home.
A concerned neighbor called the police to report the crime, prompting the cops to respond and found Bandiez lying lifeless in the dining room. She was hit in the head.
Investigation showed Bandiez and Elpa were with their adopted daughter, a 12 years old, who was watching a television show when the crime happened.
The police said Elpa, with no apparent reason, hacked Bandiez's head several times with a bolo.
Elpa was arrested and placed under the custody of the Pidigan Municipal Police Station while awaiting the filing of appropriate charges.
Based on the latest crime situation report submitted by police, 280 cases of crimes against persons were reported in the province from January to May this year.
Physical injuries logged the highest with 32 cases, followed by murder with 14, theft with eight, rape with seven, robbery with five, homicide with four, cattle rustling with two, and a lone case of carnapping. (SunStar Baguio)
