Agri office, Mabalacat City celebrate farmers' day

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) and the local government unit of Mabalacat City conducted the Farmers’ Day as part of the celebration of the Caragan Festival at the Jade Hall, Xevera, Tabun, Mabalacat City, recently.

With a theme “Misasanmetung Tamu Para King Panyulung Da Reng Ortelanu,” the farmers’ day aimed to show the need to support the agriculture sector.

The Caragan Festival was named after the first chieftain of Mabalacat, “Caragan,” an Aeta who is said to have founded the town named after Balacat trees.

The festival is also part of the month-long celebration of the city fiesta of Mabalacat, Pampanga.

OIC-Regional Executive Director Roy Abaya said the celebration is one way to give recognition to the hardships of farmers.

The aim is affordable food for every Filipino and of course, alleviate farmers from poverty through increased income),” said Abaya.

About a thousand farmers attended the said activity.
