Thunderstorm alert in Cebu

CEBU CITY -- The weather bureau warned residents in Cebu against heavy rains, strong wind, lightning and possible flashflood, as it issued 12:40 p.m. Thursday a thunderstorm advisory over Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Mandaue and Talisay in Cebu province.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the thunderstorm may continue for one to two hours.

Pagasa earlier forecast cloudy skies with rains brought by the Intertropical Convergenze Zone (ITCZ), which is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia.

The ITCZ across Visayas is considered a breeding ground for low pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones.

For Thursday forecast, Pagasa said the presence of ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Mimaropa (Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan and Romblon), Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao. (Sunnex)
