City police chief, 4 others get medals

THREE officials of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and two others from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) received awards from Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas on Monday for their accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Awarded the Philippine National Police (PNP) Medal of Merit (Medalya ng Kagalingan) were Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, officer-in-charge of BCPO; Superintendent Nasruddin Tayuan, head of the City Intelligence Unit; Inspector Adrian James Albaytar, assistant team leader of City Drug Enforcement Unit; Chief Inspector Rogelio Pacificar Jr., officer-in-charge of Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit; and Senior Inspector Rey Molas, chief of San Enrique Municipal Police Station.

The commendation given to Ebreo, Tayuan, and Albaytar was in relation to the arrest of three men in a drug bust on Medalla Milagrosa Street, Greensville 2, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City on February 13 that resulted to a recovery of 18 sachets of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing 68.181 grams amounting to P917,715, several drug paraphernalia, and a Toyota Vios.

The same recognition was given to Pacificar and Molas for the apprehension of a drug suspect at Crossing Sibucao, Barangay Sibucao, San Enrique town on February 9, with a confiscation of seven sachets of shabu weighing 6.01 grams amounting to P90,150.

Chief Superintendent Cesar Binag, regional director of PRO-Western Visayas, who led the awarding rites at the BCPO headquarters Monday, acknowledged the tremendous decrease of crime region-wide, particularly in Bacolod City.

Binag said the regional office is measuring each personnel through unit performance, crime assessment, and public perception.

Meanwhile, eight units of Tavor sub-machine guns, ten motorcycles, and two units of body cameras from the PNP national headquarters were turned over by the PRO-Westerm Visayas to BCPO during the flag-raising ceremony at the Bacolod police headquarters monday.

The motorcycles will be distributed to each of the 10 police stations in the city to aid them in mobile patrol while the body cameras will be used during police anti-drug operations.

Also present in the ceremony were Senior Superintendent Hector Maestral, chief of Regional Intelligence Division of PRO-Western Visayas; Senior Superintendent Roderick Augustus Alba, chief of Regional Operation and Plans Division of PRO-Western Visayas; retired Senior Superintendent Celestino Guara Jr.; Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran; Councilors Ricardo Tan, and Noli Villarosa.
