Ex-military general named as BuCor chief

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has named a retired military general as the new head of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), a Palace official said Thursday.

Retired Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, former commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, replaced Franklin Jesus Bucayu as director general of BuCor.

His appointment was co-terminus with the appointing authority.

Cruz, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, was appointed on June 15.

At the same time, Valte confirmed the appointment of lawyer Jose Luis Martin Gascon as the chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), replacing former Akbayan party-list Representative Loretta Ann Rosales.

Gascon, whose seven-year term will end on May 5, 2022, is presently a member of the Human Rights Victims Claims Board (HRVCB).

Aquino also named three new CHR members - Karen Gomez Dumpit, Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, and Leah Tanodra-Armamento. (SDR/Sunnex)
