A MOBILE bus worth P6.5 million that will be used for disaster orientation and preparedness activities was launched on Monday, March 13, after the weekly flag ceremony of Davao City employees.

Davao City Library head Pedrita Badar said this project of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is in partnership with the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC), Central 911 and the city library.

"The mobile bus will go to the different barangays to promote safety awareness to the public through orientation lectures and educate the community on disaster preparedness," she said.

Badar added that the library will be helpful as the city has been experiencing various life threatening calamities like flood, earthquakes, landslides, fires and typhoon.

"The mobile library for disaster risk reduction carries essential information with necessary equipment for demonstration and orientation purposes to be undertaken by the city library staff and Central 911 staff as our trainers," she said.

The bus will possibly be deployed two weeks from now. It will cater to two barangays per day. However, barangays in the central district and along roads that are passable by the bus will be prioritized.

Inside the bus are books and laptops. It also has television where trainors can play videos on disasters and how to prepare for these and other videos relating Davao City. The bus is also equipped with generator.

The bus was blessed yesterday by Father Emmanuel "Bong" Gonzaga, with the participation of different city department heads.
