Bridge repairs set ahead of triathlon

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement minor repairs on the northbound lane of the Mananga 3 Bridge in the Cebu South Coastal Road next month.

Engr. Leslie Anthony Molina, DPWH 2nd District engineer, said, though, that the bridge’s repair will not require another road closure.

Molina told SunStar Cebu that they will repair the bridge in preparation for the 2017 Cobra Ironman Triathlon in Cebu on Aug. 5 to 6.

The South Road Properties in Cebu City and a portion of the Cebu South Coastal Road in Talisay City have been part of the route for the bike leg of the race since the Cobra Ironman Triathlon was first held in Cebu in 2012.

Molina said that the repair will involve one of the posts supporting the bridge.

They will also repair some of the expansion joints of the northbound lane.

If these are not not repaired, Molina said that the bikers participating in the triathlon might meet accidents.

Molina hopes, though, that the National Government will allocate a budget for the permanent repair of the bridge.

Last week, DPWH completed its maintenance works on the southbound lane of the Mananga 3 Bridge after four days of non-stop work.
