DepEd opens bid for Caraa 2019 hosting

JUST a month after the staging of this year’s Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) Meet in the Province of Abra, the Department of Education (DepEd)–Cordillera is already set to find the next host.

With its desire to ensure preparedness and utmost compliance to hosting requirements, DepEd-Cordillera sent an invitation to all provinces and cities early this month announcing the hosting bid for Caraa 2019 open.

Among the requirements is the capability and willingness of the host local government unit (LGU) to shoulder expenses necessary for the hosting of the activity, including construction and renovation of sports facilities, billeting and other infrastructure requirements to meet standards, also, peace and order situation must be conducive for the activity and basic services such as medical, communications even electric and water supply are available.

“It would be a win-win situation for both the participants and the host province or city if we can determine as early as possible where we can hold this annual sporting event that gathers thousands of athletes and coaches all over the region,” said DepEd-Cordillera Director May Eclar. “The would-be host can already put up needed facilities and that schools identified for billeting can likewise make necessary preparations.”

Regional Sports Coordinator Agustin Gumuwang added that part of the sports facilities must be the rubberized track oval and an Olympic or standard sized swimming pool.

“Awarding the hosting rights to a province or city as early as next April or May can give us a more or less eight months for constructions and other preparations before February of next year and that other provinces or cities can make adjustments to their budgets relative to their participation,” Gumuwang said.

The department hopes to receive the letters of intent of interested provinces and cities before the last week of this month.

The letters of intent will be presented to the DepEd-Cordillera regional management committee during their meeting this coming April upon which a technical inspection team will be sent to inspect the proposed billeting schools and available facilities of the bidders after the 2018 Palarong Pambansa on the same month.
